At 11:44 of Episode One, Robin is watching an interview with Owen Quine via her computer monitor, and on her desk is a stack of five hardback books by Quine: The Balzac Brothers, Murder On The Isle of Scots(?), Dreaming in Onyx, Hobart’s Sin and Oh, Ring of Bodies. Michael Fancourt’s book Bellafront:

The cover of Bellafront features quotes from two fictitious publications: The Morning Herald and National Reporter.

“Loads of gore and arcane symbolism” and “You want to know, what’s in the bag, what’s in the fire?” both lines were lifted from the book version of The Silkworm, spoken by Crossfire publisher Christian Fisher at the end of chapter six.

Robin walks into Cecil Court, London 14:27 into Episode One of The Silkworm and stops to look in the window of Goldsboro Books. A stack of copies of Bellafront by Michael Fancourt is displayed alongside a poster featuring the author.

In Episode Two of The Silkworm, Strike and Robin consult with a literary critic, analysing the parody of Michael Fancourt’s wife’s novel, Fancourt’s early work and Quine’s Hobart’s Sin.

At 46:40 Robin says of Blatteroon:

“Apparently, a lot of people ask Oxford for it cos it’s got Fancourt’s earliest published story in it.”
