Here is a timeline of the known filming dates for The Ink Black Heart. Filming began on 12 February 2024 and wrapped on 26 April 2024. As it usually goes, filming was carried out non-chronologically; some of the final scenes in the series were actually filmed first.
12 February 2024: Filming began on Bammead Road in Bromley with Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. This is the location of the Upcott family’s house.
13-16 February 2024: Filming continued on Bammead Road, including interior scenes in the Upcott house.
19 February 2024: Filming took place on Rectory Lane in Bushey for scenes at Kea Niven’s house. In the book this was in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.
23 February 2024: The scenes with Strike and Robin meeting with Grant and Heather Ledwell were filmed.
27 February 2024: Filming took place in and around Regent’s Park, including outside the Royal College of Physicians, where they filmed the scene outside the police station with Strike, Robin and Barclay.
They later filmed Strike tailing Wally Cardew outside Great Portland Street Tube station, Euston Road and the Outer Circle.
Later they filmed inside Regent’s Park itself, the scene where Strike watches Wally Cardew being approached by Thurisaz.
2 March 2024: Filming took place in the early hours of the morning for the scene with Barclay on his bike being chased by Phillip Ormond.
3 March 2024: Filming the scene where Robin jumps onto the Tube tracks took place in the early hours of the morning at Prince Regent DLR station.
5 March 2024: Filming the opening scenes with Strike and Robin having drinks took place at Hotel Cafe Royal. This was at The Ritz in the book.
8 March 2024: Filming of the exterior of Robin’s new flat took place at Unity Place, South Kilburn.
11 March 2024: The scene where Strike and Robin meet Grant Ledwell, Richard Elgar and Allan Yeoman took place in the afternoon (3-6pm). Later, between 8pm and 9pm, they filmed the scene with Strike in pain with his leg where he sits down on the step.
14 March 2024: Filming at a hospital took place for the scene where Robin and Strike visit Josh Blay, and later the scene with Strike in hospital.
18 March 2024: Filming at the Ship and Shovell took place. They first filmed Strike following Thurisaz and Wally into the pub, then filmed the interior scenes, and later outside where Thurisaz tackles Strike to the ground.
20 March 2024: Filming took place at a pub for the scene where Strike interviews Ormond.
Later, they filmed Barclay on his bike.
21 March 2024: Filming took place at Highgate Cemetery.
22 March 2024: Filming took place at Kalendar Cafe in Highgate (the Denmark Street cafe post-bombing) and then again in Highgate Cemetery.
24 March 2024: Filming took place all day on Denmark Street.
25-28 March 2024: Filming took place in Acton for the Comic Con Live scenes.
3 April 2024: They filmed the scene with Strike and Robin with Angela Darwish. Later they filmed a scene with Jago Ross and Charlotte.
6 April 2024: Filming at the studio took place. They filmed the scene with Charlotte in the office.
8 April 2024: Filming in the Studio took place. They filmed the scene with Edie in the office meeting Robin and also scenes with Midge and Pat.
9 April 2024: Filming at the Studio for the scene with Darwish and Murphy in the office after Edie’s murder.
10 April 2024: They shot stills with Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger.
15 April 2024: Studio all day for filming various scenes including the post-Comic Con team meating. StrikeFan Bill was lucky enough to be invited by the publishers.
17 April 2024: Studio day. They filmed the bomb scene with Strike and Pat.
19 April 2024: Filming took place at Tate Britain for the scene with Strike and Midge tailing Legs and Groomer. They later filmed on Cupar Road for the scene with Robin on surveillance in the Land Rover.
21 April 2024: Filming at the studio took place for the scene with Robin seeing the new office door, the scene with Strike and Robin in Strike’s flat, and also Pat in Strike’s flat.
22 April 2024: Filming took place at Craxton Studios for the North Grove scenes.
25 April 2024: Filming at a farm took place for the scenes with Robin and Jago Ross.
26 April 2024: Scenes were filmed in the Comedy Club on Northdown Street for a YouTube clip.
They later filmed Robin walking along Bedford Row and Sandland Street.
After dark, they filmed Robin looking at her laptop in Kozzy Cafe on Red Lion Street. Filming wrapped.
