Royal Spinal Cord Injury Centre

In Chapter 62, Strike and Robin drive to interview Josh Blay in hospital. The London Spinal Cord Injury Centre is part of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and is based in their Middlesex site near Stanmore.

It takes Strike and Robin about an hour to drive, a journey that ends with “a long stretch of tree-lined road,” which is called Brockley Hill.

Robin pulls into the car park and spots a group of four people outside the entrance, who appear to be having an altercation. They are Katya and Flavia Upcott, and Kea and Sara Niven.

The centre was first opened in 1981 and is one of only eleven specialist centres in the UK dedicated to the lifelong service of people with spinal cord injuries. The centre currently has twenty-four beds comprising acute and rehabilitation beds.
