Paul Draper was a member at the Universal Humanitarian Church and a resident of Chapman Farm during the 1990s. Sheila Kennett tells Robin that Paul ‘wasn’t normal, a bit retarded’ and that everyone called him Dopey.  Draper was one of the church members punished for not stopping Cherie Gittins leaving in the truck with Daiyu the day she drowned (Ch 16).

When Strike interviews Jordan Reaney in prison, Reaney says he and Draper had become friends whilst they were both sleeping rough in Norwich. They were recruited into the church by a couple of girls who were collecting for the UHC. Reaney said they joined so they had somewhere to live and in return they worked on the farm (Ch 56).

Strike is informed by Barry Saxon that Paul Draper died a few years after leaving the farm (Ch 49). Draper had been sleeping rough when a couple had offered him a bed and then made him work for them. They subsequently beat him to death (Ch 55).
