Edward Edensor (Ed) is one of the older brothers of Will Edensor. Strike and Robin first meet Edward and his brother James along with their father, Sir Colin Edensor, at The Reform Club on Pall Mall.  Edward has blonde hair and large blue eyes.  Robin notices that he has a scar running down his temple and a walking stick propped against his chair.  Both James and Edward are much older than Will, who was born when his mother was forty-four (Ch 4).

Edward was involved in a very serious car crash around the time that Will joined the UHC. He explains that a lorry’s brakes failed, and it crashed through some traffic lights, hitting his car.  He was in a coma for five days and had to learn to walk again. He says that his mother Sally was spending all her time with him at the hospital which meant she wasn’t paying attention to Will.  Sir Colin says he blames himself for not checking on Will as often as he should have done (Ch 4).

During the interview Ed struggles to move his seat beside his father’s to comfort him, and Strike notices he still has a pronounced limp (Ch 4).
