Dr Andy Zhou

Dr Andy Zhou is a practicing psychologist and a Principal of the Universal Humanitarian Church. (Prologue).

Fergus Robertson, the journalist who Strike meets at The Westminster Arms, explains that Zhou has a regular slot on a breakfast TV show. He also tells Strike that Zhou has a clinic in Belgravia where he sees people with ‘more money than sense’, and that he recruits people from his clinic into the Church (Ch 14).

Robin first sees Dr Zhou at the Temple in Rupert Court where he tells her he is looking forward to seeing her at Chapman Farm (Ch 19).

Whilst at the farm, Robin is taken to see Dr Zhou whose office is described as meticulously tidy and smelling of sandalwood with a red and gold art deco rug on the floor. There are floor to ceiling shelves carrying leather bound books and journals and hundreds of tiny brown bottles. Robin describes Zhou as well over six feet tall and handsome with slicked back hair and high cheekbones. He has a scar running from his nose to his jaw. Zhou gives Robin a copy of Jonathan Wace’s book, The Answer and asks her questions about her health and sex life outside of the Farm.  He says that her typology test places her in the ‘decant Fire-Earth, which is to say ‘Gift -Bearer-Warrior’’. He tells Robin he devised the typology test himself and says his type is ‘Healer-Mystic’. Zhou states Robin is fit to undergo a fast and gives her some tinctures in a glass of water (Ch 31).
