On the same evening that Robin is talking to Pez Pierce in The Gatehouse in Highgate, Strike decides he would rather work in a pub with a pint in his hand, instead of at home or in the office. He first heads as usual to The Tottenham, but finds it atypically busy for a Thursday night. His next port of call is The Angel.
The Angel is a pub on St Giles High Street, which is even closer to Strike’s flat than The Tottenham. It’s a cosy pub with several small rooms and a small beer garden.
“He’d headed instead to the Angel, only to find a sign on the bar declaring that the use of mobiles and laptops was forbidden in the establishment.” (The Ink Black Heart, Chapter 68)
As Strike is planning on working on his laptop, he leaves immediately to find another pub.
The Angel belongs to the Sam Smith’s chain, which has this policy across all its pubs. However, the policy wasn’t introduced until 2019, so it doesn’t fit with the timeline of The Ink Black Heart.
