Strike and Robin venture to the small village of Woolstone during the Chiswell case and, after parking beside a hedgerow, they look up the hill to see the “gigantic prehistoric white chalk figure”. This is when they realise that this is the location Billy Knight was referring to: “He strangled the kid, up by the horse.” (Lethal White, Chapter 41)

The Uffington White Horse dates back to the Iron Age or the late Bronze Age, around 3,000 years ago. Every year, volunteers replace the chalk in the shallow trenches, keeping the 360ft horse preserved.
