Evelyn Phipps is Roy Phipps’ late mother and grandmother to Anna. Anna says that she never loved her and describes her as “one of the meanest women I’ve ever met.” Evelyn often implied to Anna that Margot simply ran away.¹  

It appears that Evelyn had a heavy influence on Roy and didn’t necessarily approve of Margot. Dr. Gupta explained that he got the impression she believed Roy “married beneath” him. ²
