The estranged family of ‘Mad Dad’ live on Edge Street in Kensington. Robin is keeping the house under surveillance in the hope of catching Mad Dad stalking or harassing his young sons. Edge Street is a cul-de-sac not far from Notting Hill Gate tube station, with a primary school at the far end.
As she loiters, she compares ‘the beautiful Victorian mews houses that surrounded her, with glossy front doors, leafy climbing plants, window boxes and bright sash windows’ with the far less attractive locations in which she may end up living (Career of Evil, Chapter 32).
