New Scotland Yard is headquarters for the Metropolitan Police Service, which serves most of London.
The large building features in The Cuckoo’s Calling and The Silkworm. Strike seems to find himself at New Scotland Yard after bodies are discovered. After finding the body of Owen Quine, he’s kept there for hours (most likely partly in revenge for his humiliating the Met by solving the Lula Landry case) as the authorities take their time questioning him.
Strike and Robin also visit the headquarters in Career of Evil to view crime scene photographs with Eric Wardle.
In The Cuckoo’s Calling and Career of Evil, Strike meets Eric Wardle at a pub called The Feathers, which is very close to New Scotland Yard and frequented by plainclothes police.
We visit Scotland Yard again in Lethal White when Strike and Robin are interviewed after making a shocking discovery during the course of the Chiswell investigation.
Later in Lethal White, in a surprising but welcome change, Strike and Robin are invited to Scotland Yard as allies of a sort in the Chiswell case. They discuss their evidence and findings with Eric Wardle and some of his colleagues. Can we possibly hope for a more amicable relationship between the police and the agency?
Frankly, New Scotland Yard is a very plain-looking building and area, but if you’d still like to check it out in person, you can find it here, or find the new location by the River Thames here:
