Albie Simpson-White is Rupert Fleetwood’s friend. They worked together in Dino Longcaster’s members club called Dino’s.
Robin goes to Dino’s and talks to a waitress outside who tells her that Albie is now working in Harrods.
Robin finds him in Harrods where he’s working in the sports department on the fourth floor (Chapter 29).
She persuades him to talk to her, and so they meet at the staff exit of Harrods on Basil Street.
Robin suggests going to The Alfred Tennyson up the road, which she’d looked up ten minutes prior, as to avoid the more expensive places in the area.
Albie is twenty-four years-old and described as tall, blond and baby-faced, with a complexion many women would envy.
Robin thinks he is an amiable young man, bright though not academic. She is slightly puzzled that Rupert Fleetwood would be friends with someone who seemed decent, hard-working and responsible.
Albie tells Robin that Rupert is a good man and to not judge him for stealing the silver nef from Dino Longcaster.
Although Albie tells Robin he doesn’t know where Rupert is, Robin suspects otherwise. She’s sure he’s hiding something.
In Chapter 33, Robin tells Strike she wants to put surveillance on Albie in hopes that he’ll lead them to Rupert.
Strike and the subcontractors are reluctant to put surveillance on him since the agency is already stretched as it is. Kim Cochran isn’t shy about voicing her opinion in Robin’s hearing, thinking it is a stupid idea and that it’s unlikely Albie will lead them to Rupert. Robin later starts to feel somewhat professionally inadequate for wanting to put surveillance on him.
