Here are the known filming locations, in chronological order, for Episodes 1 and 2 of Strike: Troubled Blood.
EPISODE ONE
St Mawes
The first episode opens with a beautiful shot of St Mawes in Cornwall which was taken from across the bay, looking west. St Mawes is Strike’s home town and many of the Cornwall locations used for filming are the ones from the book.
Victory Hill
The next scene shows Strike leaving The Victory Inn and walking down Victory Hill towards the harbour. The Victory is featured in the books as Strike’s local.
This location features again later in the episode when Lucy walks with Strike towards the ferry.
The Quay, St Mawes
Strike makes his way down to the bottom of the hill with his pint and smokes a cigarette whilst looking out over the sea. He is approached by Anna, and then Kim, and they talk about Margot’s disappearance. This conversation was filmed on The Quay.
This location was also used in the later scene where Lucy walks Strike to catch the ferry to Falmouth.
Amelia Street, London
After Strike has spoken to Anna and Kim, he calls Robin, who is on surveillance back in London. The shots of her speaking to Strike from the Land Rover were filmed in Amelia Street, Kennington, south-west London.
Port Navas
Strike speaks to Robin whilst on his way back to his Aunt Joan and Uncle Ted’s house. In the books, they live in a house up the hill in St Mawes, but Port Navas, a small village about 25 minutes drive south west of Falmouth, was used for this location.
Ted and Joan’s
This house in Port Navas was used as the location for Ted and Joan’s house. The interior scenes were filmed at a different location.
Although we are unsure of its exact location, we believe the interior scenes set at Ted and Joan’s house were filmed at this house in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire.
Albemarle Way
Robin is at home researching the case and talking to Max. She finds a documentary called The Demon of Paradise Park and we are shown a clip on her laptop. It is a reconstruction of two women struggling outside the phone box and was filmed at the same phone box used as the location for the struggle in the book, which can be found at the end of Albemarle Way in Clerkenwell, London.
The Pier Café, Falmouth
Robin is shown having a coffee and waiting for Strike’s ferry to arrive in Falmouth.
These scenes were shot in the Pier Café on the Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth.
St Mawes Ferry
We are then shown Strike on the top deck of the St Mawes to Falmouth ferry. There are three boats used for this route, and shooting took place on The Queen of Falmouth. The flashback scenes showing Young Strike and Leda were filmed on the same day.
Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth
Robin waits for Strike on the pier in Falmouth.
The Moor, Falmouth
As she does in the book, Robin has parked the Land Rover on The Moor in the centre of Falmouth. You can see the Palacio Lounge, the book location, in the background.
Anna and Kim’s
In the book, Anna and Kim’s house is located on Wodehouse Terrace, but the house used for the television series is on Tredynas Road in Falmouth.
It was used for both the interior and exterior shots.
After they have met with Anna and Kim, Strike and Robin are shown leaving the house. Robin puts the box of evidence Anna has given her into the back of the Land Rover and they drive away.
Oonagh’s house
On their way back from Cornwall to London, Strike and Robin interview Oonagh Kennedy at her home, said to be in Winchester. This house in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire was used for both the internal and external scenes.
Nightclub, London
The flashback scenes showing Margot and Oonagh training and working in the nightclub were filmed in a club called Infernos on Clapham High Street, South London.
St John’s Medical Practice
The flashback scenes showing the inside of the St John’s Medical Practice of the 1970s were shot in a studio.
Denmark Street
As with the previous series, the real Denmark Street was used to film the exterior scenes of the office. In the books, the office and Strike’s flat are located on the upper floors of 26 Denmark Street, but the television office is located above the No Tom guitar shop on the other side of the street.
The scenes that take place in the agency offices and in Strike’s flat on the floor above are filmed on a set in a studio.
EPISODE TWO
St John’s Medical Practice
The office building used as the exterior of the St John’s Medical Practice is not in Clerkenwell, but on New N Street in Holborn.
Interior scenes of Strike and Robin interviewing Dr Gupta were also shot in the building.
St John’s Gate
Strike and Robin are shown passing under the real St John’s Gate in Clerkenwell on their way to the Athorns’.
Albemarle Way
We then see Strike and Robin at the end of Albemarle Road in Clerkenwell. Strike notes the telephone box at the end of the street, which is where Ruby Elliott saw the two people struggling.
They then walk down Albemarle Way itself and ring the Athorns’ doorbell.
The Athorns’ flat
The interior of the Athorns’ flat is a set in a studio.
Nursing Home
The exterior and interior scenes set in St Peter’s were filmed at a now closed former nursing home on View Road in Highgate, North London.
Rupert Court, Soho
In one of the last scenes of the episode, we see Robin finding her way to the last place Kara Wolfson was seen alive, outside the Carnival Club where she worked. This scene was shot in Rupert Court, Soho.
