Strike follows Seb Montgomery from his office in Newman Street, Fitzrovia onto the Tube and then off the train at Highgate Station.
Montgomery is joined outside the station by Tim Ashcroft and then Wally Cardew, who has been followed there by Barclay. The three young men head off, followed by Strike and Barclay who have decided to remain incognito by pretending they are on a blind date.
They proceed along a street “lined with Georgian houses,” which may be Southwood Lane.
The three men then turn off the road “into the forecourt of a large, white-painted and bow-windowed pub called the Red Lion and Sun, where wooden tables and benches stood among shrubs in pots.” (The Ink Black Heart, Chapter 21)
The Red Lion & Sun is a highly acclaimed gastropub and has won many awards, including being named winner of the 2022 best pub in the country at the Great British Pub Awards.
