In Hereford, with a belly full of a Dirty Boy Burger, Cormoran Strike makes his way from the Beefy Boys restaurant to the Golden Fleece pub with the aid of Google maps, to meet with Rena Liddell (Chapter 101).

“On entering the pub Strike found a narrow, cramped and corridor-like interior…“

“… a large television screen showing Sky Sports” (Chapter 101)

“Cameron” is directed to go “up there”, which involves negotiating a “steep metal staircase” upon which he spills his zero-alcohol beer.

On reaching the roof terrace he can see the spire of St Peter’s and he is confronted with Ralph Lawrence not Rena Liddell.

They have a short, tense conversation in which Lawrence claims to be “doing you (Strike) a favour” in warning Strike about Rena Liddell’s mental instability. Strike informs Lawrence he has no intention of co-operating with him after being forced to climb the stairs and spill his pint, and leaves.

The Golden Fleece can be found on St Owen’s Street, Hereford, opposite St Peter’s church and the city’s library.
A pub has occupied this site since the 17th Century; its former names were The White Lion and The White Horse and it gained its current title in 1840.
