The Duke of York’s Theatre

On the same evening that Strike meets with Wardle in The Cinnamon Club, Murphy and Robin go on a date to see a play at The Duke of York’s Theatre in Covent Garden (chapter 9).

It is the first time that Robin has been out and about with her newly dyed blue hair and she is feeling self-conscious.

They have tickets for The Father, an award-winning play by Florian Zeller.

The Duke of York’s Theatre production in 2016 starred Kenneth Cranham who, in 2022, would feature in the television adaptation of Troubled Blood as Dennis Creed.

The play is about an elderly man suffering from dementia. The production described the play as:

“Now 80 years old, Andre was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pyjamas, and he can’t find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he’s losing control.”
