This street in Wood Green, London, is where Robin and Ryan Murphy go to view a house.
In the car on the way to the house, Robin receives a call from Strike, which she cuts short because she is sitting with Ryan. “‘What aren’t I allowed to hear?’” Murphy asks her after she hangs up.
Half an hour later they arrive in Moselle Avenue.
“‘This looks all right,’ said Murphy enthusiastically.”
The street is describes as having terraced houses of red brick and in far better repair than the one they previously viewed in Wanstead.
Before entering, Robin receives another call, this time from Dilys Powell, the grandmother of the missing Tyler Powell. Ryan waits for her.
On viewing the house, Robin almost instantly knows she will not live there. When Ryan reaches for her hand and squeezes it, she feels “a slight clenching of her stomach, and unbidden into her mind came the thought, I will never live in this house.” (Chapter 27)
“… she knew it wasn’t the house she hadn’t liked, but Murphy’s squeeze of her hand – in consolation? Hope? Encouragement?”
After leaving the house, Ryan takes a work call and Robin takes the opportunity to call Strike back. He updates her about Ralph Lawrence’s visit to the office and his suspicion that he is MI5, and also about the note that had been pushed through the agency’s door saying the man in the vault was Dangerous Dick de Lion, who Strike had discovered is a porn star.
Robin and Ryan then go to an unnamed pub to look at photos online of the house Robin already had decided she wasn’t going to live in.
