The Lion’s Mouth is a road that runs between Cromer and Aylmerton, Norfolk, through a woodland owned by the National Trust.
We first learned that the Lion’s Mouth road would be a location in The Running Grave as J.K. Rowling used this photo as a Twitter header:
Robin travels in the UHC minibus to Chapman Farm. ‘The minibus had driven through Norwich and arrived in countryside. After half an hour’s travel along lanes bordered by hedgerows, Robin finally saw the sign for Lion’s Mouth, a narrow, tree-lined road’ (Chapter 24).
Chapman Farm is located ‘up a well maintained track’ off Lion’s Mouth. The farm is fictitious and in reality no such track exists.
Chapman Farm’s boundary runs along Lion’s Mouth and it is on that boundary that the blind spot is located. Strike parks his BMW here and waits for Robin to leave the farm.
Lion’s Mouth is located on the Felbrigg Estate. It is very popular with walkers, as it winds through the Great Wood, a mixed woodland planted mainly with sweet chestnuts, beeches and oaks.
