The agency’s regular client, Two-Times, informs Robin that his wife, who the agency are surveilling, will be spending the evening at Coya with a group of female friends celebrating a birthday.

Coya is a Latin American restaurant on Piccadilly in Mayfair, specialising in Peruvian cuisine.

Robin has been home to change and she is wearing the same outfit – blue dress, opal pendant – that she wore on the day of her thirtieth birthday when Strike had taken her to the Ritz for cocktails.

‘Loud music pounded in the dimly lit basement room, which was swathed in lush greenery to suggest the rainforest’ (Chapter 73).

Thinking that it might look conspicuous if she visits the restaurant alone, Robin has asked Midge to join her. However, Strike swaps shifts with Midge. Robin looks up to see him approaching her and experiences ‘an electric shock in the pit of the stomach’ (Chapter 73).
They spend a somewhat uncomfortable evening talking about the silver vault case as they watch Mrs Two-Times. Strike drinks beer and orders the beef. Robin has chicken.
