There has been an amputee rehabilitation service at Queen Mary’s since the First World War, when the service was established to help those who had lost limbs as a result of the war.  In 2006, the Centre was renamed the Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre after the RAF pilot who lost both his legs in World War II.
