Chapter 50 finds Robin following Gus Upcott from a dermatology appointment on Harley Street to Fischer’s for lunch. You might remember that Harley Street is where Dodgy Doc presumably used to work in Lethal White.

Robin follows Gus to Marlebone High Street, and into Fischer’s, “a Viennese restaurant that looked traditional and upmarket. Robin suspected the still hive-plagued young man had chosen it for its dimly lit exterior” (The Ink Black Heart, chapter 50).

The restaurant’s interior is described as having “nicotine brown walls” with “mirrored panels and 1930s paintings.”

“Gus had been seated on a leather bench in a distant corner where it would be physically impossible to walk casually behind him and glance at the screen of his laptop, which he’d already opened” (The Ink Black Heart, chapter 50).

Whilst keeping an eye on Gus, who is on his laptop on the back bench, Robin orders herself a coffee and logs into Drek’s Game to watch for any activity from Anomie.

Just a few buildings down on Marlebone High Street is the site of Tyburn Manor House, which was used by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I as a hunting lodge.
