In chapter 21 of The Ink Black Heart, Strike follows suspect Seb Montgomery into Goodge Street Underground station. The target boards the Northern line and exits at Highgate station before meeting Wally Cardew, Tim Ashcroft, and Nils and Bram de Jong.
The station also features in the second Strike novel, The Silkworm; Strike leaves the station to walk to Elizabeth Tassel’s office on Gower Mews.
Goodge Street station opened in 1907 and was called Tottenham Court Road before being given its current name in 1908. The station’s exterior was designed by architect Leslie Green, who designed many of London’s Underground stations, identifiable by their “oxblood red” blocks.
