Daiyu Wace was the daughter and firstborn child of Mazu Wace.
Physically, she’s described as being “distinctly rabbity in appearance, with an overbite emphasised by a missing tooth, dark, narrow eyes and long, shining hair” (chapter 29). On 29 July 1995, at 7 years old, Daiyu drowned in the sea off Cromer beach after a UHC member took her for a swim early in the morning.
Kevin Pirbright describes her as being “Mazu’s princess” who “always got special treatment and more leeway than the rest of the little kids” (chapter 7).
She is remembered by the Universal Humanitarian Church as the Drowned Prophet – the most important prophet – and seems to manifest every July on the day of her death. Church doctrine declares that Daiyu’s death was holy and that she had spiritual insight and supernatural powers. She “embodies the pure spirit and the higher realm” who “will bless all who worship her” (chapter 27).
Daiyu plays an important role in the conclusion of the mystery.
