After years of wondering what is going to happen to Denmark Street, especially the site of Strike and Robin’s office at number 26, it seems we may finally have some answers…
For those of you that didn’t know, the 12 Bar Club, first mentioned in The Cuckoo’s Calling as being situated below Strike’s office, was closed in January 2015 when developers bought the site.
In a recent article about a legal battle between the founder of the original 12 Bar Club and the new developers of the area, it seems that there are plans to reopen a venue here again called the 12 Bar Club (but not owned by the original founder). However, the name all depends on the outcome of this legal issue.
It appears that construction on the building has been a massive task.
“The old forge building, which housed the club, was “literally underpinned, moved, we dug down two storeys and then we’re moving the building back. So it’s effectively a four-storey, 500-capacity venue on Denmark Street.” g-qmagazine.co.uk
Outernet are the developers of the site, and have big plans. You can visits there website to find out more at outernerglobal.com.
“Our approach is driven by a commitment to retain and restore its spirit. “The shop-fronts are being faithfully repaired, preferential leases say they have to remain music shops. Increased awareness is vital for specialist music shops and Outernet will create that, benefitting from the hugely increased footfall.
“We want to refocus the street as a beacon for British music.” camdennewjournal.com

If there’s going to be another 12 Bar Club here, we’re excited! We’ll finally be able to get an experience close to the old Denmark Street, back when the sound of the bass guitars thrummed through the walls and into our favourite detectives’ office.
Let us know in the comments if you’ll visit the new 12 Bar Club (if it’s called that) or if you ever visited the original venue. We’d love to hear your thoughts!
