Richard Elgar is the chief executive of Maverick Films in the UK. Along with Edie’s agent, Allan Yeoman, Elgar hires the detective agency to discover the identity of the online troll Anomie, who relentlessly harassed Edie for years and continues to cause problems for the upcoming movie based on The Ink Black Heart.

Elgar is an American and is described as a “dapper, forty-something man” with dark hair and wearing a neat “well-tailored suit” and “onyx and steel cufflinks” (The Ink Black Heart, chapter 18) when Strike and Robin meet him.
