Here are the known filming locations, in chronological order, for Episodes 1 and 2 of Strike: Lethal White.
Rushton Hall Hotel
Episode one of Lethal White picks up shortly after the end of Career of Evil, at Robin and Matthew’s wedding reception. In the book, this takes place in Swinton Park, but the scenes for the television adaption were filmed at Rushton Hall Hotel near Kettering.
The opening shot shows Strike sitting on the curved steps down to the lawn.
The wedding dinner scenes were filmed in the hotel’s beautiful orangery, which is available for hire for real-life weddings.
Robin and Matthew’s first dance was filmed in the hotel’s grand hall.
The Hug was filmed on these steps in the grounds.
In the books, Matthew and Robin honeymoon in the Maldives. The destination is not mentioned in the TV show, but the scenes, which are shown as flashbacks, were filmed in Mauritius.
The scenes between Strike and Chiswell were actually filmed at Pratt’s Club on Park Place, St James’s.
The club has six hundred members but only fourteen can dine at any one time around the single dining table in the basement.
Henry Drummond’s Gallery
After they leave Pratt’s, Strike and Chiswell walk to Henry Drummond’s Gallery. They are seen crossing St James’s.…
… and walking down Ryder Street before stopping in front of No. 19, which was used as the gallery. It is currently an art agency and gallery called Fine Art Commissions.
Six Fitzroy Square
Jasper Chiswell’s London house is in Ebury Street in the books, but this Georgian house on Fitzroy Square was used as the location for filming.
Three scenes were set at this location. In episode one, Strike delivers the recording devices to Chiswell. At the end of episode two and the beginning of episode three, Robin discovers Chiswell’s body and she and Strike call the police. In episode four, Strike and Robin visit Kinvara to tell her about the painting.
Six Fitzroy Square is available to hire for events such as weddings, parties, conferences, filming, etc. You can find more information and photographs at their website here.
Houses of Parliament
Robin, in her Venetia Hall disguise, is shown walking through Victoria Palace Gardens toward the Houses of Parliament.
As filming is not allowed in the Houses of Parliament, stand-in locations were used from this point onwards.
The scene with Robin and Izzy walking through the large medieval hall was shot in the Great Hall of the Guildhall of the City of London. The Guildhall was built in 1411 and is still used as a town hall and event space today.
A later shot of Robin walking through corridors was filmed in the South African Cloister of Charterhouse School in Surrey.
Shots filmed in Harrow School and Rushton Hall Hotel (the hotel used for Robin and Matthew’s wedding reception) were also used to knit together the parliament interior scenes.
The Duke of York
As with previous series, scenes at Strike’s local, The Tottenham, were shot at the Duke of York in Rathbone Street.
Albury Street, Deptford
In the books, Robin and Matthew rent a house on Albury Street in Deptford, and the real Albury Street was used for filming the show. Robin and Matthew are shown as living at number 19.
White Horse of Uffington
At the end of the episode, Strike and Robin travel to Oxfordshire to investigate Billy’s story about the murder of a child. They are shown standing by the eye of the White Horse of Uffington.
The Uffington White Horse was created sometime between 1380 and 550 BC, during the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age.
Strike and Robin’s visit to Jimmy Knight’s ex-wife’s hair salon was filmed at Area G, a hair and nail salon located at 13 Ilderton Road in Surrey Quays.
Strike and Robin take the Landrover to visit Jasper Chiswell at his country residence, Chiswell House. These scenes were filmed at Philipps House (formerly Dinton House) a neo-Grecian house built in 1816, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1943, although it is leased to a tenant and not open to the public.
Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons
Two scenes were shot at Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, the Michelin- starred luxury hotel in Oxfordshire. In episode two, Matthew and Robin spend their wedding anniversary at the hotel. In episode three, Strike and Robin visit to find out details of Kinvara’s stay there. There are more photos of this beautiful hotel on their website here.
Jimmy Knight’s CORE group are squatting in a building as a protest. They hold a party, and Strike crashes it to see if he can find Billy. These scenes were filmed in an abandoned building at 84 River Road, Barking, in a shipping container depot.
In the books, Lorelei’s vintage clothing store and flat are located in Camden. The street used for filming, however, is Brick Lane in East London, famous for its vintage shops and curry houses. Lorelei’s shop at number 151 is a real vintage clothing store called Here After Vintage.
The Paralympic Reception
The exterior scenes for the Paralympic Reception were shot in Waterloo Place, Pall Mall. Strike is seen heading for the reception in an attempt to stop Jimmy Knight’s protest.
The guests are seen arriving at the Athenaeum Club, 107 Pall Mall.
However, the interior scenes of the reception were filmed at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire. Wrotham Park is available to hire out for events such as weddings, conferences and, of course, as a filming location.
Strike tracks Billy down as he recognises the sound of the Swiss Glockenspiel in Leicester Square in the background of his telephone call.
He searches for Billy, checking to see if he is the homeless person lying on the street between the Hotel Indigo and the casino next door in Leicester St.
He finds Billy slumped against the concrete bollard at the Lisle Street end of Leicester Street.
