Strike meets Jheel Gupta in chapter 10 of Troubled Blood when he interviews her husband and Margot’s former work partner, Dr. Dinesh Gupta. She’s described as a “tiny, slightly deaf, gray-haired woman” who tells Strike all about their three daughters and six grandchildren. During the interview, Mrs. Gupta watches Escape to the Country in the kitchen (turned up high because of her hearing) and brings Strike and Dr. Gupta tea and fig rolls.
“‘More tea?’ inquired Mrs. Gupta, and she removed the tray and the now-cooling teapot, telling Strike, who had risen to help her, to sit back down and not to be silly.’”
