Amersham is a market town in the county of Buckinghamshire, northwest of London. This is where Dr. Dinnesh Gupta lives – one of the doctors who worked at the St. Johns Medical Practice alongside Dr. Margot Bamborough.
Besides their new clients, Anna Phipps and Kim Sullivan, Dr. Gupta is the first witness Strike interviews for the Bamborough case.
Strike texts Robin on her birthday (though unbeknown to him) asking if she would like to accompany him in interviewing Gupta later that day. Unfortunately, Robin has an appointment with their weatherman client.
After they hang up, Robin is left upset that Strike had forgotten her birthday yet again.
“It’s Robin’s birthday, you total dickhead,” Strike’s friend Ilsa texts him later.
After interviewing Gupta, Strike heads back to Amersham station, “past the box hedges and twin garages of the professional middle classes.” He arrives at the station having just missed a train to London, so he sits down on a bench, lights a cigarette and checks his phone.
You can get to Amersham from Central London on the Metropolitan Line of the Underground. It’s about an hour away.
