Octavia Street

Octavia Street in Wandsworth, London, is where Strike’s good friends Nick and Ilsa live.

Strike stays with Nick and Ilsa to avoid the press on Denmark Street following any news-worthy events, such as finding Owen Quine’s body in The Silkworm and being sent a severed leg in Career of Evil.

“This was the second time in his detective career that Strike had been forced to take refuge with his friends Nick and Ilsa. Theirs was probably the only place he could have borne to stay, but Strike still felt strangely undomesticated within the orbit of a dual-career married couple.” Career of Evil, Chapter 11

Graham Hardacre calls Strike whilst at Nick and Ilsa’s. Strike excuses himself and leaves the house and onto the street.

“‘Can you talk, Oggy?’ asked Hardacre, as Strike headed back to the front door.

‘I can now,’ said Strike, reaching the end of the short garden path in three strides and stepping out into the dark street to walk and smoke.” Career of Evil, Chapter 11

“The detective crossed the road, sat down on the low garden wall of the house opposite …” Career of Evil, Chapter 11

Could this be the low wall Strike sits on?

Strike briefly returns to Octavia Street in Lethal White to stay with Nick and Ilsa when he is concerned about the press coming for him. Nick and Ilsa have recently adopted two kittens named Ossie and Ricky who have yet to warm up to Strike.

At the end of Lethal White we find out Strike and Robin are to meet at Nick and Ilsa’s house for dinner.
