The Gun

Grant Ledwell asks to meet Strike at a gastropub called The Gun near his office in the Docklands.

“The sign outside had a fake bullet hole the size of a grapefruit punched in it.…”

Strike was shown through a room full of rifles on the walls. There’s also boar heads.

Strike and Grant dine in a dark-panelled room, which is called the Cabin Room.

“… and sat down at table for two which gave a clear view of the Millennium Dome, the curved white tent-like structure visible on the opposite bank” (The Ink Black Heart, Chapter 65).

Strike and Ledwell both order steak and chips.

The pub dates back to the early 18th century but took its current name from the cannon that was fired to celebrate the opening of the West India Import Docks in 1802. Lord Nelson was a regular vistor to The Gun and would secretly meet Lady Emma Hamilton in an upstairs room.
