Goodge Street Station and Gower Mews

In Chapter 8 of The Silkworm, Strike gets the Tube to Goodge Street Station and heads towards busy Gower Street and to Elizabeth Tassel’s office.

Goodge Street station opened in 1907 and was called Tottenham Court Road before being given its current name in 1908. The station’s exterior was designed by architect Leslie Green, who designed many of London’s Underground stations, identifiable by their “oxblood red” blocks.

Strike likely walks down Store Street and then into Gower Street, before turning off Gower Street and onto what is described in the book as a quiet residential cul-de-sac of dark brick.

Strike presses a doorbell besides a brass plaque and Elizabeth Tassel’s assistant Ralph answers the door.

On leaving Tassel’s office, Strike heads back to Gower Street and calls Robin. Opposite him is a blue plaque of Lady Ottoman Morrell, which confirms that Gower Mews is the street where Tassel’s office is located, though it is not mentioned in the book.
