First Lethal White Review

The first review of Lethal White has hit the newsstands, and it’s a good one! The Sunday Times review, “Striking a Blow,” reports that the book has the “complexity of Victorian fiction,” “a cast of grotesques worthy of Dickens,” “a sense of impending doom,” and “a labyrinthine plot with its origins in the basest human emotions.” Sounds like we’ll have to read it a few times between next week and the end of next month to get in the mood for Halloween!

What details does the review reveal? The first scene is at Robin’s wedding (where Career of Evil left us hanging), but the bulk of the book takes place during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

So the book skips ahead a year, since the wedding took place 2 July 2011. Robin goes undercover in the House of Commons for a case they’re working on that involves blackmail of a Tory cabinet minister.

At the same time, “a possibly psychotic young man” has told Strike he witnessed a murder, so it sounds like our detective duo will have their hands full.

Here’s the review in its entirety, if you’d like to read it yourself:

It’s only a week before the book hits the stands, people! Now that we know a little more about it, what are your thoughts and predictions for Lethal White?

  1. Oh this peek gives me joy! I think the one year jump is interesting – will we see Robin settled on married life (with tons of fighting obvs) or did they break up during/right after wedding? Sadly I think they’re unhappily married BUT the time jump does give me hope that maybe we’re done with Matthew by the end of the book?

Seems like dear Robert is giving us two mysteries for the price of one! +++
    Robin undercover = FUN.

    I’m so excited.

    1. Agreed! I’m excited to see what Robin’s and Cormoran’s romantic landscapes look like after one year. I also can’t wait to see the rest of the wedding scene at the beginning of the book. Will Robin find out about the voice mail?

      1. Will Shanker and Sarah Shadlock meet? Will Martin call Cormoran Hopalong? So many questions!
