Filming Troubled Blood in Cornwall (Days 5 and 6)

On Sunday 13th March, filming of Troubled Blood took place in Falmouth again, on a high sloping street with houses which overlooked the sea.

The house used for Anna and Kim’s second home had been built a few years previously and fitted the description in the book as being a modern-looking house designed by an architect.

Shortly after we arrived, a friendly next door neighbour, who was excited about the filming and had also let the crew use her driveway, let us into her house to see the view from the back which overlooked the sea and we got to see the rear of Anna and Kim’s house, which had large patio windows and a balcony.

Crew were then building scaffolding in the neighbour’s back garden so that they could place a huge bright light to shine through Anna and Kim’s window for the shots.

The Land Rover then turned up and was parked further up the street while interior shots were taking place with Tom Burke, Holliday Grainger, and the actresses portraying Anna and Kim. There were no signs of Cagney and Lacey (the cats from the books), though, but maybe they were snuck in.

Later, a scene was shot of Strike and Robin leaving the house – Robin carrying a cardboard box – and getting into the Land Rover before driving off down the street with Anna watching from an upstairs window.

The atmosphere that day was very cheerful; all the crew clapped when the filming wrapped, and then they clapped for us for being a good audience.

The following day, Monday 14th, was back in St Mawes for a few pick-up shots outside The Victory. There’s not much to say about that morning. Filming wrapped around 2pm and the crew all packed up to leave Cornwall.

This was one of the best experiences of our lives; we feel extremely grateful and lucky to have witnessed the shoot in Cornwall. We were so thankful that the cast and crew were so lovely with us and so welcoming. A special shout out to executive producer Ruth Kenley-Letts for getting us in as extras and being such a lovely person to chat to.

Also a huge thank you to Sue, Katie, Faye, Glenda, Jo, Helen and Sam for the great company!

Filming of Troubled Blood has now wrapped and is now in post-production. The 4-episode series is set to air in early 2023 on BBC One in the UK.
