To the delight of Tom Burke fans, the Strike actor currently has several films due for imminent release, all of which are receiving very positive reviews. Living, starring Bill Nighy and Aimee Lou Wood will be released theatrically on 4th November 2022. The film was directed by Oliver Hermanus from a screenplay by Kazuo Ishiguro, adapted from the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru. Set in London in 1953, it depicts a bureaucrat (played by Nighy) facing a fatal illness. Tom’s (minor) role is that of Mr Sutherland, a hard-drinking, free-spirited artist.

The Wonder is set in the Irish Midlands in 1862, and follows a young girl who stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright (Florence Pugh) is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year old Anna O’Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harbouring a saint ‘surviving on manna from heaven’ or are there more ominous motives at work? (IMDb) The film is based on the novel by Emma Donoghue and also stars Elaine Cassidy, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds. Tom’s role is that of sceptical journalist William Byrne. It will have a limited theatrical release at the beginning of November before debuting on Netflix on 16th November.
Klokkenluider has been billed as ‘a darkly comic, character-driven thriller following a government whistleblower and his forthright wife as they are sent to a remote house in Belgium. Joined by two close protection officers, they await the arrival of a British journalist.’ (IMDb) Amit Shah and Sura Dohnke star as the whistleblower and his wife, and Tom and Roger Evans take the parts of the bodyguards. Also starring Jenna Coleman as the journalist, Klokkenluider was written and directed by Neil Maskell, who Strike viewers will know from his portrayal of Donald Laing in Career of Evil. Klokkenluider was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, but does not have a UK release date as yet.

Upcoming projects
Tom has now reportedly returned to the UK after filming his role in Mad Max spin off Furiosa. He had been out in Australia since shortly after finishing Troubled Blood in the summer, working on the Fury Road sequel. Furiosa is due to be released in May 2024. Tom will also be starring in The Gallows Pole, a six-part BBC drama based on the novel of the same name Benjamin Myers and directed by critically acclaimed director Shane Meadows (This is England). The Gallows Pole tells the story of a gang of 18th-century weavers and land-workers who embark on an ambitious criminal plot. Also starring This is England actors Michael Socha and Thomas Turgoose, and Downton Abbey’s Sophie McShera and Cara Theobold, no release date has yet been confirmed.
It’s also been reported that Tom is to star in Irish revenge thriller Bring Them Down, alongside Irish actor Barry Keoghan. Set in the wild landscape of the West of Ireland, the film follows an Irish shepherd who is drawn into violent conflict with a neighbouring farm when his sheep are massacred by unknown men. It was originally slated to start production this year, however it is believed filming has not yet started.
Finally, Joe Barton, creator and writer of The Lazarus Project has confirmed on Twitter that Tom will be reprising his role as Dennis Rebrov in season two of the time-travelling sci-fi thriller. Season one is currently streaming on Sky in the UK.
